At Black Boxes, we build high-precision GPS and autocare hardware. We believe your telemetry data belongs to you. Here is exactly how we protect your journey.
1. Telemetry Collection
Our Black Box hardware collects high-fidelity GPS coordinates, vehicle speed, g-force impact data, and OBD-II engine diagnostics. This data is required to provide real-time location tracking and predictive autocare alerts.
2. Zero-Knowledge Encryption
Your location history is secured using military-grade AES-256 encryption. Data is encrypted directly on the hardware before cellular transmission. We cannot access your live location without your authenticated app token.
3. Absolute Control
You have the right to disappear. From the Black Boxes mobile app, you can trigger a "Ghost Protocol" to instantly halt tracking, or exercise your Right to Erasure to permanently purge all historical telemetry from our edge servers.
4. Third-Party Sharing
We never sell your driving habits to insurance companies or data brokers. Data is only shared with our certified autocare mechanic network if you explicitly tap "Share Diagnostics" when a vehicle fault is detected.
Detailed Disclosures
Autocare Diagnostics
When connected to your vehicle's OBD-II port, the Black Box reads error codes (DTCs), battery voltage, and coolant temperatures. This non-identifying mechanical data may be anonymized and aggregated to improve our machine learning models for predictive maintenance alerts.
International Data Transfers
While Black Boxes operates globally, your telemetry is stored in the region where your hardware was activated (e.g., AWS servers in Frankfurt for EU users, Ohio for US users) to comply with GDPR and CCPA data sovereignty laws.
Emergency Response (Crash Detection)
If the internal gyroscope detects a g-force impact consistent with a severe collision, the hardware will automatically transmit your final known coordinates to local emergency services. You can opt-out of this automated SOS feature in your account settings.
